Canada is a large country in North America that offers plenty of travel options for both local and international tourists. You can go from mountainous terrains to water bodies. But the country also offers other travel destinations for people who love architecture and cityscapes, and for people who love to travel for the food and culture.

Here are some of the most underrated travel destinations in Canada:

Calgary, Alberta

According to Architectural Digest, Calgary is one of the underappreciated travel destinations in Canada. It is one of the largest cities, and it was even voted as the top livable city in North America Economist Intelligence Unite, per The Star.

Some of the modern architectural structures that tourists should see are the Calgary Central Library designed by Snøhetta, Studio Bell that houses to the National Music Centre, and Telus Spark, which is considered the science center in Calgary.

Calgary is also home to the Glenbow Museum, which has been the cultural cornerstone in the city for the past 50 years. The museum showcases exhibits that represent Western Canadian art and culture.

Santiago Calatrava also designed a pedestrian bridge called Peace Bridge that crosses over the Bow River. The bridge caters for both pedestrians and cyclists. It is an eye-catching structure because of its red highlight. It sort of matches the Calgary Tower, which is an over 190-meter observation tower in Downtown Calgary.

Thunder Bay, Ontario

Thunder Bay is a city in northwestern Ontario. According to The Loop, this city offers one of the most character-rich cultures because of the strong indigenous presence in the region. The Thunder Bay Art Gallery even showcases some of these native artworks in their museum. The city also offers Northern European cuisine.

You can also check the Fort William Historical Park which is one of a few attractions that actually offer northern hospitality that is similar from how the people do it from a century ago. Though that is the case, the park still has modern facilities.

For a more adventurous trip, you may check out Kakabeka Falls and Kaministiquia River. Kakabeka Falls is located along the Kaministiquia River, as the river runs for about 60 miles and eventually ends in Thunder Bar. Kakabeka Falls is one of second highest waterfalls in Ontario that allow tourists to access it throughout the year.

Victoria, British Columbia

Victoria, being a coastal city, offers a lot of attractions. It offers a lot of breathtaking architectures including the Parliament buildings, Craigdarroch Castle and Fairmont Empress Hotel.

The city is also home to the Royal British Columbia Museum, which was founded in 1886, which was eventually combined with the BC Archives in 2003—BC Archives which was founded in 1894. It means that the two organizations are in charge of protecting the provincial museum and archives, including the collection of artifacts, documents and specimens of natural and human history, particularly of British Columbia.

Canada has a lot of things to offer, either for travelers who are looking to have an adventure or for travelers who are in it for the culture. Though it is great to explore the commonly known attractions in Canada, there are a few benefits in checking out the underrated ones. Some of these destinations are often cheaper than the most commonly visited ones and the volume of tourists is a little bit lower—which is great for your photo ops!
